SATURDAY ACTIVITIES - On Saturday I will do raku firings starting about noon and lasting for a few hours. You will be able to see a pot go from bisque to finished in about 45 minutes.
SUNDAY ACTIVITIES - On Sunday starting at noon, I invite my visitors to try their hand at the wheel.
I make functional hand painted stoneware pottery for everyday use, and decorative vessels that celebrate the marriage of clay and fire.

Pig Pen Pottery has been my studio since 1988. It occupies the basement of Orchard House, my grandparents’ house built in 1939. It has a rustic feel enhanced by a large fireplace. It is a peaceful place just to be. I work in functional stoneware primarily. I am largely self-taught. This has allowed me to make some discoveries that I treasure. I believe that a well balanced pot made with its purpose in mind is one of the joys of life. My pots are painted with what I see daily: chickens, herons, owls, goats, pileated woodpeckers, and recently with something I wish I could see: elephants! On occasion I work in Raku, and alternative firing techniques such as saggar and horsehair. My style has developed as it has because I have ruined so many nice pots by putting the wrong glaze on them. I downplay the glaze and prioritize the look and feel of the clay. I have given nearly as much thought to my studio as I have to the pots. Throughout the tour I invite you to look around the studio and ask about anything you see; tools, the way I have it organized, paints, glazes, anything!
