Painting in oil is not just a hobby for me; it is a profound passion. My inspiration derives from a diverse range of sources, including the picturesque landscapes of Virginia and captivating locations across the globe that have touched my soul. I try to capture the feeling of a location using light and shadow. My background in drawing enables me to capture intricate details and breathe life into my compositions. I particularly like to challenge myself with composition and perspective. Many comment that they feel as though they could walk right into my painting! My goal is to maintain that kind of emotional response. I am also a member of the Master Art Copyist program at the National Gallery of Art (NGA), which grants artists the opportunity to study and replicate renowned artworks by master artists on display. When painting a copy of a masterpiece, I focus on brushstrokes and color to understand the artist's mindset and intentions. I then embark on my own artistic interpretation, infusing the piece with my unique perspective while staying true to the essence and spirit of the original work. Painting at NGA is an honor that I hold dear and cherish.
