Safoura Haghigi

Safoura Haghighi is a fifth-generation artist who has maintained the essentials of traditional Persian painting. Her legacy is to follow in the footsteps of her grandfather, Mirza Aqa Emami, whose works are today on display in American, European, and Middle Eastern museums. She masterfully blends the traditional techniques of Persian painting with a contemporary style, creating a unique fusion that bridges the gap between tradition and innovation, making her work resonate with modern audiences. Her work is also inspired by Rumi’s Persian poetry, particularly his exploration of the search for union with the divine. Through her paintings, she aims to bring the sublime beauty of Persian mysticism to Western viewers.

The two dimensional portrayals of objects indicate the environment is not earthly in nature but rather reflects a divine plane of existence. Shadows are not used in Persian painting. There is no place for darkness where human features and all creatures are immersed in absolute divine light. The bright colors are reminiscent of the supernatural world.
