Safoura Haghighi

Safoura Haghighi is a contemporary mixed-media artist whose work explores the intersection of memory, poetry, spirituality, and cultural inheritance. Born and raised in Tehran, Iran, and now based in Great Falls, Virginia, she comes from a distinguished lineage of artists in which traditions of Persian miniature painting and illumination have been preserved across generations. Trained through years of private apprenticeship under master artists Zinat Emami and Parvin Sepehr, Haghighi developed an exacting technical discipline rooted in historical practice while cultivating a distinctly contemporary visual language. Her work is informed by the legacy of her grandfather, Mirza Aqa Emami, whose paintings reside in major international collections, including the Louvre and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Working in ink, gouache, watercolor, and gold, Haghighi creates intricate, meditative compositions that unfold slowly through layers of symbolism, ornamentation, and luminous detail. Drawing inspiration from Persian poetry and metaphysical thought, her paintings exist between the earthly and the transcendent, inviting prolonged contemplation and intimate viewing. Rather than reproducing tradition, Haghighi reinterprets inherited visual vocabularies through a contemporary lens. Her works function as bridges between cultures and histories—honoring ancestral knowledge while engaging a global contemporary audience. Safoura Haghighi’s work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions and is recognized for its distinctive synthesis of historical craftsmanship and contemporary sensibility.
